Please use the new Coil Dwell Factor setting for the Dodge (SRT-4/Neon/PT Cruiser) Coil Pack.

Go to:
AEMPro | Ignition | <<Advanced Ignition>> | Coil Dwell Setup | Options - Coil Dwell | Coil Dwell Factor = 30

Because Chrysler uses direct-drive coils, the ECU has to source all of the current. It is completely normal for the ignition drivers to get warm, but with too much coil dwell, they will get too hot. This becomes a problem if the engine stays at high engine speeds for an extended period. This new setting will eliminate this from being a problem.

if this is in regards to the speedmerchant return, the car was not driven at high rpms whatsoever when we had the coil issue. the rpms stayed below 4k and there was less than 40 miles on it total before the issue.

hopefully this will prevent any more issues and thanks for updating it for us jp

If you are running an MSD, you should go to the Coil Dwell Wizard and select "All CDI Systems"

We have not done coil dwell testing on those MSD coils. For now use the latest SRT-4 dwell settings unless you would like to send those coils in for testing.

Read this thread: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/index.php/topic,18210.0.html

I would suggest getting rid of it and using a stock coil pack since those are good to 600+whp anyways.

wait!! send the msd coil pack to aem for testing, if they say its inconsistent, then we know it's really junk. but i have a theory that a lot of the msd problems come from bad spark plug choices!!!
