If you are currently using an MSD coil we recommend you remove it and install the factory coil.   The coil dwell testing we have done still heats up the coil drivers to the point that the solder will melt which will loose ignition to 2 or 4 cylinders.  As far as we know everyone has had good luck with the FACTORY coils even in HIGH horse power applications. grin

all big powered cars, except for the 7second drag DCR car, the factory coilpack works better. DCR uses individual blaster SS coils...which is pretty cool. we have been saying, for quite some time now, that that MSD coil is worthless. i heard somthing, at somepoint, thats its suppose to run on less than 12v, but our system runs 12v to it, which causes overdriving and eventually failure. dont know if this is true, but that was what i had heard

they arnt as bad, but i have seen more than one go bad. we were having a brutal cut out issue on a car i was tweaking. couldnt figure it out. threw on a factory coil with more than 60,000 on it (the deamon only had 2000) and the problems were solved

What about the Screamin demond coilpack?

I WOULD NOT DO IT. The stock coil pack out performs all of the standard aftermarket direct replacement. The MSD direct replacement coil packs and the Screamin Demon are worthless. Also AEM did there testing on the stock coil pack so why use anything else.

Any known issues using an MSD coil with an MSD ignition box (DIS2) driven by the AEM EMS?

I agree, the coil pack does cause huge problems if not taking off right from the start. So far i've found the problem from Alot jerking & jolts to it messing with your (tps). Some reason it's just to much spark, Plus if i'm correct, I heard from other friends with an srt-4 that it has caused computer failure if used for awhile. I know from experience I replaced the msd coil pack for three times, as we all learn from mistakes that we do. It's all about plug & play I wished I seen this posted like a few years ago, would've saved me time, money. lol
Coil Pack = Junk it!!!  afro
I also bought the MSD Ignition rolleyes and, again learned the hard way.  It was top of the market for the Dodge SRT-4 ; But nobody knew the issues behind it yet, now this you should sell to a muscle car owner if he has an engine small enough for the DIS 2 Ignition shocked. lol Or atleast a Honda owner can make use for it!
 wink

There is at  4 good ones and one or two spare coils, one is missing the rubber boot, serviceable item.

i have had mine on for about two years now and still no problems. i would be more weary of what plugs you guys are using on your srt. i would suggest not using anything fancy (i.e. ngk iridium iv, bosch triple platinum....) i would only use resistor type spark plugs (i.e. ngk r) which is essentially the base model ngk plug. the cars come oe with resistor types, and i would suggest sticking with that. if you really want to know why, i will dig it up and tell you, or you can just trust me on this.

I have been trying to diagnose a 1st gen neon with a 2.4l swap and gt35r. The car would freak out above 4500 rpm the sensor would go from normal temps to max, The ecu would show the voltage going from 14vdc down to 10vdc all above 4500. But my multimeter would show constant 14ish volts. I was sure it was something in the harness. I tried additional grounds to the block, shielding sensor wires. Then I read this thread. I took out his msd coil and put in a stock one. The car is running perfect now. Screams all the way to redline and the sensors are all reading normal.
