yep tried that been waiting on a response for some time now.
You're a dick mate, eBay the FIC. Reminds me of a 9yr old who doesn't get what they want so they throw a fit.
Sell it on eBay and part ways with AEM.. Your customer service expectation-level seems really high!

I attached a scoped ckps wave. I think the problem is that the factory voltage varies from 1v to over 7v while I think the FIC can only produce a maximum of 5v.

Nice and no, mine produces 12volts. But 5 volts does the same thing and other engine managements run a 5 volt out and the factory ecu has no problem with them. This is purely a AEM issue.

Hey Brydon. Do the other piggybacks intercept the crank and cam signals? If you just tiie into the crank and cam signal, your car missed? Do you still have your FIC?

Some do intercept the crank and cam. If I use the FIC to tie into just the crank and use a zero map it still misses. I've even tried using another piggyback to feed a digital signal to the FIC and it still misses. I've tried resistors, zener diodes, buffering, grounding changes, grounding kits, different voltages, and all sorts of other fun stuff. It still misses and gets worse over time.
And yes I still have the FIC. It is a $400 paper weight at the moment but I might try it on my KA24DE powered datsun 510 in a while.

Skidd,
We have too many other projects to bring a 2.5RS in for testing right now, I doubt we will be able to even consider testing an Impreza until after summer. I am still confident that the FIC can work with the Impreza; we've had success with most cars that we have tested here, some just take longer than others. It sounds like Brydon tried a lot of things, but he seemed to be getting frustrated and I didn't think it was fair to ask him to continue to be our guinea pig.
Cough... friendly reminder poke.. Cough

I hope we old-school RS Subaru owners have not been once again forgotten by the after market world?

Sorry Brydon.. I seem to be having trouble getting used to it :p
Come on AEM... don't leave us hanging here.
If you guys are never going to get around to this.. that's fine.. I'll look elsewhere.. but... I'd rather not have to!

Thanks for the reminder, folks. Not intending to leave anyone hanging, but we really do have quite a few exciting things going on at any given moment. Here's some info that might be helpful:
We have seen a couple of vehicles that had erratic misfires (especially at high load) which would go away if you bypassed the cam or crank signals so they were not intercepted by the FIC. All vehicles used magnetic sensors and missing-tooth crank trigger wheels. After measuring the signals with an oscilloscope, we could see that the signals were a bit noisy, and the FIC inputs were sensitive enough that they picked up noise and sent an extra cam pulse to the ECU. The solution was to install a 2k ohm resistor with one side connected to Crank MAGI(+) and the other side connected to Crank MAGI(-). Another 2k resistor installed with one side connected to Cam1 MAGI(+) and the other side connected to Cam1 MAGI(-).
The 98-01 Impreza 2.5RS has magnetic sensors and a missing-tooth crank trigger wheel, so this may work for your cars also.

I tried this months ago because the WRX uses the same cam/crank trigger and configuration as the Scion XB. I noticed they had the same problem. This made the issue less noticeable but it still remained. The RS uses the same sensors as the WRX and Scion but the trigger wheel was different until 2005 in the RS. So the resistance might be slightly different to cut out all the noise. Probably lower resistance to ground to drop the signal lower. I wanted to connect a potentiometer and play with it to find a resistance that might work but never got around to it. I then sold my turbo kit and found another solution to go turbo. But I still own the AEM FIC and will be using it on a KA24DE turbo project in a datsun 510.

I'm starting to feel a little silly bumping this thread all the time.... but...
bump.
Please tell me you guys plan on actually certifying this F/IC on the <2005 NA Subaru one day?
The only reason I haven't given up and gone with something else is the MSRP over your competition, and how well AEM electronics "usually" perform.

So that's it then... are we SOL here? I would have already bought one of these if it worked as advertised. So would many other aftermarket FI Subaru owners. Brydon all but walks on water in the Subaru message boards. Believe me when I tell you that a Subaru product endorsed by him is practically money in the bank. My Supercharger kit is nearing completion, I need a good fuel and ignition controller!!
There is also a recent surge in performance cams being put into NA 2.5L Subarus that could benefit from one of these FICs to try and clean up the lumpy idle. There is even a company based out of Australia (Raptor Superchargers) that has just released a new Supercharger kit for the NA Subaru crowd. They happen to be looking for a North American piggy back product as an option to the Australian made Moristech Prosequential piggy back that they currently use.
I know you guys have suggested to try the 2k resister tweak, but according to Brydon in this thread, he tried that already. And it didn't work?
Common AEM.. don't keep us hanging. I can't believe you don't even have a single Subaru listed as a supported vehicle yet. If your not going to ever look into this, fair enough.. just say the word and we'll let it go.. but... well.. you get the idea.
(I'm kinda like a mosquito that just won't go away!)

I have kind of similar issues with mine for the last year(meaning not driveable in the last year because of the FIC)(and me being a bit lazy to keep diagnosing what it is)
I am in contact with SB on my issues for some time and access to a scope. I have been able to get the input and output signals of the crank to be less noisy and more similar in voltage and drop/rise of the wave.
BUT i still have a miss/stumble that happens more at higher rpms (3000+) or accelarating quickly (more load).
One difference is I use hall effect sensors which are just a 5v signal.
I was getting P1391 codes for intermittent loss of crank or cam (no cam signal being intercepted or t). After reading about how that code is triggered(compares crank and cam reading) I let the FIC intercept the cam. NO different those. Recalibrated and all. Code comes back if i dont pussyfoot the car and even then sometimes.
