2 Step Rev Limiter Installation

This installation does not require a clutch switch input, ie: NO WIRING! This strategy will work for all EMS Part Numbers as long as the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is still being used.

In the AEMPro software go to:

Setup | Rev Limiter | Options - 2-Step

Set up this option's window like the example below. Enter the appropriate Ignition cut 2nd and Fuel cut 2nd RPM values to activate the limiter. The Ign cut 2 + and Fuel cut 2 + options will need to be tuned to achieve the desired type of cut (hard or soft). This example deactivates the 2 step rev limiter after 10 mph. Note: The RevLimit2 VSS must be met before the Fuel/Ignition cut 2nd RPM.

If this took you 6 seconds, you do not type fast enough. wink

Hrm, in another thread it was concluded that the VSS switch needed to be enabled. My settings below do NOT work Sad

Sorry so big, I had also tried setting the fuel and ignition to 90%. It worked in .89 previously...

Black Magic,

It works but in the V0.94 firmware, you have to set the "+" and rates for Ign cut 2 and Fuel cut 2.

ARGH!!!!EW%#@$%^ DOH!!!

In my defense - the menus that I'm using are fresh off of a new install. Please check them as I have no doubt it'll trip up someone else Sad Will be nice to have this sucker working again though - schweet!

Hrm, and what numbers should I have in there for my primary rev limiter as I'm pretty sure I just hosed them up pretty good and would hate to blow past redline.

P.S. Thanks for catching this! I was pulling my hair out and I've not got enough left to allow that Wink

Should be noted that if you want full-throttle shifting, you do need to wire up the clutch switch with a relay.

But if you are only interested in launch control, this is the best choice.

This will allow you to sit at the line with the throttle wide open and not just partly cracked. When you let out the clutch the throttle STAYS wide open and once you've hit the 2step speed setting the engine will rev freely - this will be after the clutch is fully engaged. This will be a faster launch that slowly rolling into the throttle.

Right now when I try this the car hit the limit, falls several hundred RPM as it cuts way out, and then revs back up. It doesn't hold at the RPM cut. If anyone has settings that will better hold please post them up. Obviously I'm cutting too much but I'm not sure what sort of numbers are optimal.

Also, has anyone played with timing at the cut? That looks to be one of the options - part of the anti-lag setup?

BLKMGK, Thanks.  When I tried it, it just went straight through.  Maybe my setup isn't correct.  I didn't see or felt the 1st limiter kick in.

mine:
fuel cut 2nd = 8500
fuel cut + = 0.00
ign cut 2nd = 3500
ign cut + = 0.00
launch rtd = 0.00
launch rtd + = 0.00
rev limit in pin = always on
revlimit2 vss 10

What's wrong with this picture???  This is actually a copy from another calibration I'm using.  Thanks.

What is your Fuel/Ign cut 2 rate set at?

I didn't set it to anything.  How do I set that?  Thanks.
Actually, where do I do that?  I don't see it in the 2-step option.
I do see it in the full list, is that where I set it?  Thanks.

Mine is:

Fuel cut 2 rate - 40%
Fuel cut 2nd 3200RPM
Ign Cut 2 Rate - 85.9
Ign Cut 2nd 3800RPM

Honestly - it feels crappy Sad It will rev up, then sort of cut and free fall. Feels almost like a really bad surging idle except at high RPM. My settings obviously aren't too hot and I'd appreciate hearing form anyone that has set this up to just sort of hang at a specific RPM where boost can be built up some. I think I'm simply cutting too much too quickly but I've NOT had time to fool with this. I made the mistake of having Automapping on and bumping this one - it put some NASTY holes in my fuel map that cut fuel 100% when I'd hit those points and it almost left me stranded in an intersection shocked Not hard to fix once I figured it out but I've been a little hesitant to play with this ever since Wink It doesn't help that my exhaust is loud and revving in the driveway or anywhere else is pretty obnoxious rolleyes Will play with it again when time and opportunity present themselves...

It is my understanding that the 200-500 rpm fluctuation is actually what allows boost to be built since there is resistance-fluctuation.  AFAIK it was impossible to simply build boost at any RPM without that stutter.  -Ian
