I tune with a Thinkpad T61 on XP sp2 - core2 duo 2.4 ghz, 2 gigs RAM, used for tuning without any bloatware or recreational user nonsense installed on it. I have .NET 3.5 installed. It's not remotely slow, loaded with TSRs, nor is it made with cheap backbone electronics like HP/Dell/consumer grade plastic laptoys.

AEMTuner is very difficult to make find the EMS (using Gigaware/Radio Shack USB-serial cable). After several restarts it of laptop + cycling ignition key it will synch and work. Occasionally glitches and the AEMTuner application has to be restarted.

Many times the AEMTuner application loads itself into memory only to immediately close itself before any actions can be taken. Unplugging USB cable, cycling the key sometimes resolves this. Otherwise, restart. This is not cosmetic - many times.

I've gotten BSOD twice (BAD_DRIVER_MMPOOL) when navigating Tools->Preferences.

What you've gotten correct: datalog speed is AWESOME and the application doesn't hiccough during or immediately after cranking like AEMPro does.
