I was wondering... the timing mark setup process, before initial startup on an LS1... how hard is it really?
Do you have to degree the crank to piston position? The LS1 has a crank and cam sensors... so wouldnt initial timing be spot on without determining #1 TDC?

Any info or experiences would be awesome. Thanks.

To be 100% assured about timing accuracy, you would have to key the crank damper, timing marks on the damper, and a timing pointer on the timing cover. This is something to be more concerned about when doing crazy builds with custom cams or aftermarket cranks and the such.

Hmm.

My LS1 has all Lunati internals, and the crank is keyed... meaning a keyway. I have a an aftermarket crank dampener... hmm... maybe it has marks. I need to check.

Thanks for the reply.

Most likely, it will have timing marks on the damper. Just make sure to put a timing pointer on the timing cover before you put the heads on. After the heads are on, it's a bit harder to get TDC.
