i dont know if this is normal. does anyone else have this issue? whenever i have power to the unit it clicks. but it works.

Yes, that's normal.  The gauge sends a constant pulse to the solenoid to basically see if it's there or not.  It's part of the error detection that's been built into the system.

The sound it makes largely depends on how and where you have it mounted.

You can most likely zero out the cells you idle at so you don't hear it click when you're not driving.   Also, as stated above, if you mount it on some isolators rather than rigid to the frame, it will help lessen the sound.
