I've got a strange problem here and I was hoping somebody might know whats going on.  The car starts and idles normally with the spout connector disconnected and the timing locked out at 10DBTC.  As soon as the spout is connected the car dies and it will not start again unless the spout is disconnnected.

Where should I look in the software to try to fix this?

Thanks.

The aem is probably not sync'd with your timing. Explain the sync method you used to sync your timing wtih the aem...

You do not remove the spout to time an aem car.

I pull the spout connector and set the timing to 10 degrees.  Then I plug the spout back in and use the use the software adjustments to sync up the timing in the software with the distributor.

I can't even get the thing started with the spout in.  What do you recommend?

Update on this issue...

The EMS is not outputting a SPOUT signal.  With the SPOUT connected I've got no output from the coil.  From the look of the factory wiring diagram the SPOUT is a +12V trigger.  All I get from the ECM side of the SPOUT connector is a solid ground with the ECM connected.  I probed the wire and there is continuity between the wire and no continuity to ground with the EMS disconnected.  As soon as I connect the EMS the wire goes straight to ground.

Another strange problem is that any output that is activated and deactivated also triggers LS9 (Pin 54).

Anybody have any ideas?

Are you sending it back in to AEM for repair?

aren't you not supposed to pull the spout out to set the timing when using an ems?  think that had something to do with it?

Yes.  I sent it in earlier this week.

You can do it both ways.  You can set the initial timing with the spout out, plug the spout in and then sync it to the aem.  Or, you can just run the car with the spout in and sync it up to the AEM.  Either way works.  The EMS sends a 12V trigger to the TFI that fires the coil.  When you pull the spout connector the TFI fires the coil via the reluctor wheel using the rising edge of the short tooth as the initial timing event.  The car ran fine with the spout out so I knew the problem was somewhere in the spout wire from the harness or in the EMS itself.  The spout was going dead to ground with the box plugged in.  The spout wire was clean from the harness to the plug and from the plug to the TFI.  I was pretty sure the problem was in the box after tracing the wire.  I plugged another box into the car and everything worked perfectly.

Turns out both the main and daughter boards on the ECM were fried.  Got the ECM back last week and unfortunately the replaced boards are a 1.19 firmware and my old map was for a 1.11 firmware.  The cal conversion in the software didn't work all that great so I'm starting from scratch on a new cal.
