AEMTuner Not Connecting to ECU in Vista
«

I've been using AEM Pro for a while with no issues but AEM Tuner will not connect to the ECU no matter what I try. I'm using an 1820 box on an 04 STI with a USB-Serial adapter. AEM Pro connects flawlessly but any time I try to get AEM Tuner to connect, it just hangs and becomes unresponsive.
Please advise as I greatly prefer the layout and usability in Tuner.
FYI, I'm running a Gateway laptop with Vista Home Premium Edition.
Thanks

Go to ECU>>Connection preference and set it to Serial First. Also, try opening the Device Manager and modifying the USB-serial COM port settings. There are two slider bars that can be adjusted for speed or reliability... adjust them a few steps closer to reliability and see if that helps.
AEMTuner is designed primarily to interface with Series 2 EMS units. Although it may still be capable of talking to a Series 1 EMS for basic functions, we recommend that you use AEMPro with Series 1 units.

That's kind of disappointing. There shouldn't be any reason it couldn't communicate just as well as AEMPro.
Most of the ECU's out there currently are version 1 and AEMPro doesn't seem to get much support anymore.
Thanks

it's on now. Remember to set Baud rate to 38400 if you're using usb-serial adaptor with EMS1.

I got .99 and set the baud rate to 38400 like instructed and still no love. It just hangs whenever I try to connect to ECU.
Please help

As SB said, make sure that you set the priority on "Serial".
What type of error is it giving you? Can you post a screen shot?

I don't get any error message, the program just hangs until I kill the process.

Ed, sorry to hear that. I'm working on this issue and the next version of AEMTuner should fix this. However, there is a workaround:
1. Go to Device Manager
2. Change the port to COM1 for your usb-serial-adapter.
3. Disable all other COM ports except COM1.
This works on a Thinkpad with XP Pro.
