Just installed an FI/C and have a few questions
«

I just installed an FI/C for a customer. By the looks of it it is an old version. The software is 1.0x or something. If I install the latest software will it be compatible with his box, or do I need to install new firmware to his box.
I also see on this site the FI/C6 and FI/C8. I am wondering if the new software is at all compatible with his box seeing as his ust says FI/C.
Thanks.

Hello,
When i installed my FIC, it was 1.04. If you wanna use new version software you should have to upgrade firmware.. I did, it works fine.

The software is specific to the hardware you have, FIC-6 software won't work on the FIC-8 and vice versa.
If you want to upgrade to the latest software, you will need to flash the x300.hex file to make them compatible. Other than that you will be free to use the software.

If it looks like this:
it's an F/IC6.
If it looks like this:
it's an F/IC8.

Okay, I updated to the latest software and firmware, x300 and z110. The box is an F/IC 6. The car is a Toyota Cladina GT-T that uses a 3SGTE engine. The car runs fine up to 3500rpm at which point it misfires badly. I double checked the wiring and it all checks out okay. I did the setup with the rpm and TPS but have not touched any of the other maps. The car should therefore run like stock. Any ideas what the problem could be? I searched the net and found another owner with the same car with the exact same problem, but no solution.
EDIT: I originally tried installing the Z104 firmware but it gave me an error - incompatible file or something like that.

But I haven't connected up those wires yet. This car actually uses a map sensor anyway.

It seems to me like a firmware issue. If there's any way you can get the F/IC to flash the firmware, Z107 should fix the problem, we have experienced a similar problem with Scions with Z110 firmware.

I tried Z107 and the result was the same. I then tried wiring in the 2K OHM resistors between MAGI+ and MAGI- for both cam and crank as described elsewhere and that solved the issue.

I have another problem with this now. The car never starts up the first time. It just cranks and cranks and sometmes t backfires. On the second try it will start okay. It seems that the F/IC is interpreting the crank/cam signals incorrectly on first start. What can be done about this?
