Anyway to have AEMTuner capable of functioning without ever having an AEM installed?  I would like to work on my maps/workspace on another PC.  If I install AEMTuner without ever having the ECU connected, I get tons of exception handling errors.

I've even tried installing the AEM driver through "add hardware" to no avail.

I've ran all versions of AEMTuner, and even up until this day, without the actual EMS connected and the program runs fine. No crashes. Make sure that you have the proper .NET framework installed. The drivers will not cause any problems since you're not trying to connect, so there's no need to install them.

If you're just trying to open up the program, load the calibration and workspace to edit/view calibrations, it should allow you to do so without any problems.

Ah thats right, I completely forgot about .NET.

I'll give that a try, I'm sure that will fix it.  Thanks.

Yes you'll need .net to run AEMTuner. I'm curious how did you install the lasted version, since the installer should check for your .net existence and version.
Also, it'll help if you can post some screen shot of crashes.

The laptop currently has:

.NET 2.0 SP2
.NET 3.0 SP2
.NET 3.5 SP1

I attempted to install 2.0 SP1, but I get a "Setup Error" from .NET installation screen without any description of the error.  I am logged in as administrator thus I don't see the issue, but my main tuning laptop does not have .NET 2.0 SP1 yet the software installed and runs great there... (WinXP).

I haven't yet installed any newer service packs, but I assumed these were the latest.

what's the cal version you're trying to open? Check your AEMTuner\GIN Files folder, and make sure you have the corresponding GIN files.

These errors show up while the splash screen is still visible.  It complains of a missing .GIN files although they are all in the \GIN folder.

Does .NET2.0 SP1 have to be installed or can it work with SP2 only?

it should work with SP2. It seems AEMTuner is looking for some invalid calibration file when loading up.
Let's try the following:
1. uninstall AEMTuner.
2. delete ProgramFiles/AEMTuner folder.
3. open regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AEM\AEMTuner and delete the whole 'AEMTuner' entry.
4. restart system.
5. re-install v0.99 beta and try.
Let me know if it works. Thanks.

Did exactly as described.

First error when loading .99 was strange.  Threw an exception error asking me to debug in VStudio.

Second attempt and I was back at the .GIN errors while loading up.

It's really strange. Can you list all the files in your AEMTuner folder to a text file and attach it to the reply?
Try the following:
1. download the attached batch file.
2. copy the batch file to your AEMTuner folder, double click to run. Then you'll see a "filelist.txt" in your AEMTuner folder.

* list files.bat.txt (0.05 KB - downloaded 23 times.)

I don't find any difference as of files. So there is something wrong when running the program. You mentioned AEMTuner runs well on your main computer. What's the difference between the two computers? Same OS? Same Language?
Can you try to copy all files under AEMTuner folder and paste to your main computer to see if it works?

I can try that, but I may just give up.  Here is why.  The pc in question is a corporate "work" pc, with all the admin restrictions, network restrictions, etc.  It is a fairly new model Dell laptop.  I don't know what else they've modified on this PC (registry wise) that may be limiting AEMTuner access to certain windows core features.

I've installed the software on yet another bare bones laptop and it works fine there...
