I have observed this many times before with my v1.11 setup.  Basically if I'm downloading internally logged data to my PC from the EMS and the stream is interupted, either accidentally (power loss) or intentionally (via cancel button), the EMS requires a hard reset (power disconnect).  If not done, it will display symptoms like not being able to connect to the PC and not turning on the fuel pump.

And yes, I know to let the Main Relay turn off after running the car before attempting to download a log.

Is there a reason that AEM is not answering threads where some people have issues?  I have seen quite a few and they are oldish treads as well with no AEM replies.

Are AEM PMing the posters directly?  If so what would be the point of that when we all could benefit from learning the answers?

Thanks

I have had that happend to me twice. It occurred when I was trying to tune the engine cold idle. I would start and shut off the engine quickly (so as to not allow engine warm up) and make changes to the start up and enrichment tables and the interruption of ecu power caused it to "lock" up on me. It would crank and not start or start and stall.
The solution both times was to disconnect the ecu and reload the working cal map.
I thought I was the only one who had experienced this.
Needless to say, I have not fiddled with the cold start in this manner since.
Cold weather here in NY is going to be coming however..........

I brought up this issue along time ago and never got a responce.  My lap top is not the fastest beast around so I often have to try a few times to upload cal files.  This problem refects in downloading log's.  The EMS will go off line and not come back on, so I have to cancel the download.  After that, it's game over.  The EMS locks up and the car wont run, the EMS won't come online or anything.

PLEASE GIVE US SOME INFO ON THIS!!!

Since my EMS is really really really hard to get at and unplug I have just been tuning without log's AND THATS HARD TO DO

This is a problem that needs to be delt with!!!

Had to reset an EMS tonight that locked up during a reflash. I popped the hood and pulled the ECU fuse. Does your platform not have an ECU specific fuse? huh

Rockstar said he had to reload the .cal, but I have found that to be unecessary.

I have a decent IBM T21 and don't think my laptop is the issue, although one of the lock-ups occurred when I was playing with another log while DL'ing an internal log.  Now I just sit still and pray that I don't have to start the car in an emergency.

FWIW - I have not been PM'd about this post by AEM, but if I was, I'd put a follow-up post in here so y'all would benefit.

I don't have to reload the Cal after the EMS locks up.  I was just saying my Lap top is slow.  so all comunication between the lap top and the EMS is slow, and I often loose the conection even while uploading cal files.

I hope we can find a fix for this.

A fuse for the EMS, thats a great idea. I will have to look into it. I have a 91 talon TSi AWD (1G DSM) if anyone knows.

On a 2G Eclipse the ECU fuse is the yellow fuseholder in the fuseblock by the upper IC pipe under the hood.  Pull it up about 1/2" and count to 10, then push it back in.

I knew someone would say that.  It used to work for my factory ECU but it only seems to clear the EMS log.  You would think it would do the trick, but it doesn't.

Right... but if it's freezing outside and you lack the tools, you can also disconnect the plug with the power pins to the EMS.

Bah, I just pull my EMS fuse when I manage to lock it up. Thankfull only one time have I done this consistantly 8O

Well okay there was that one bad beta firmware that used to lockup all the time but that doesn't count Tongue I could pull that fuse so fast that the light over my head in the intersection would still be green my way when I cleared out of the intersection cheesy

Did we ever determine if pc speed was important?  366Mhz P2 256Mb ram Windows XP

I can't complete a download with something in it to save my life.

log always = off
loop logging = on (figured this would keep the file smaller) how long is a loop?
log switch = on
switch is always OFF
load > -10.01
throttle > 0
Rpm > 700
vss = 0

PC logging works fine
Help! please
