Hello

i just read how to set up the spray value with the AFR but i would like to understand how (By which amount) the w/meth will lower my afr???

i understand that methanol would be a source of gas that will make mixture more rich but what about water and mixture quantity? if it make my setup too rich with a 50/50 could i try a 40 meth 60 water mix to help ?

i read that we should set it up to increase the afr by 1 point but what about obd2 system that would correct it in the long run and make the mixture leaner ?

thanks

To take full advantage of the Water/Meth kit you really need to be able to tune your car.  Depending on the nozzle size it can move your afr by way more than 1 point.  You really need to tune your car for the water/meth.  Using the built in ECU calculations to correct would cause problems when the water/meth is not being injected.

But to answer your question, Methanol is a Fuel, and when injecting it, your ECU is unaware that it is there(unless you tuned for it).  This is why your afr goes richer.  The 50/50 is for safty reasons.  100% meth is very flamable, the 50/50 is not.  So for safty it is recommended to run 50/50.  Lots of people I know run 100% with out issue.  For me I chose 50/50 and made plenty of power.

Using a different mix to control afr is the wrong way to adjust your afr.  You need to pick a % you want to run and always run that same amount.  Adjust your tune to clean up the afr.

How to tune, start with the smallest nozzle and start adjusting the afr and timing.  If you require more water/meth, move to
the next nozzle, repeat until you are happy with the results.  I was running 28psi on the largest nozzle and made 400/400 on ca 91 + 50/50 stock turbo/block.

Be sure to read the whole manual that came with the meth kit, it has lots of good stuff in it.

thanks  for answering, i understand that nothing work without tuning and i have a programmer for my speed3 to do that but the calculations curves of everything is a little bit complex with 3D maps...

My main question was how the methanol/water ratio would affect the result: why 50/50 and not 20%m/80%w or why someone would run 100% meth ? I would expect that water is needed also not just to diluate methanol?

i want methanol to run more agressive timing with pump gaz but i would also try it to get rid of a tunning issue...I would love to have it simple and just reduce the timing curve where i should but don't find how for my particular problem:  i set it up for the full boost issues but  i read knock retard (not real knock but cpu control) right after a boost load return to normal...(1-2 sec after releasing the gaz pedal) timing reads 8-12 deg in full boost but jump to 45-55 when pedal is released and afr goes lean very quickly...As weird as it can, this isn't happening during warm temperature but only under very cold condition!!! Yesterday it was -10deg F and just cruising with 1-2 lbs made my engine knock right after!!!...Adding octane booster to my fuel also help and i wonder if a water#meth could help to rich the mixture under boost to keep it colder righ after i release the gaz pedal....
My other option if i couldn't figure it out on the tunning side would be to use a blow of valve VTA to rich the mix right when i release gaz and the vented air would be calculated as being burned by pcm and it will rich the mix accordingly
